Saxondale EMI Care Home is located inside a converted Victorian family home in Barnsley. It has been extended to comfortably accommodate its residents as a 34-room facility along with ensuite and washroom facilities. Staff here provide a range of care, covering everything from nursing care and end of life care, to elderly care and specialist care for those suffering with mental health issues such as dementia and Alzheimer’s.

The compassionate team at Saxondale, currently led by the experienced Mr Anthony Mitchell, promotes independence where possible while providing round-the-clock care, seven days a week so residents are fully supported. All staff are trained in their respective roles to ensure each individual receives the best care possible for a home away from home. Our friendly team makes sure family and friends are greeted with a warm welcome when visiting their loved ones.

Facilities, Services & Activities

The team at Saxondale are proud to offer residents a range of facilities to make their stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible. The in-house chef and kitchen assistant provide appetising, well-balanced meals so residents can maintain a healthy diet while enjoying the foods they love. 

Residents have access to enclosed gardens if they fancy a relaxing stroll or would prefer to have a calm moment watching the wildlife at the seating areas and decking space. Pets are welcome to visit, as they provide comfort and companionship for residents. 

Internet access is available, and there is street parking and flexible visiting times so family and friends can visit their loved ones with ease.

Activities at Saxondale Care Home

To keep residents active and entertained, Saxondale have a dedicated activities coordinator who organises a whole host of games, entertainment evenings and experiences. We run exercise classes to help residents stay fit, as well as arranging regular visits from the local hairdresser and chiropodist to support their health and wellbeing. 

We also tailor activities to help residents dealing with different mental health issues, such as using sensory equipment to help with de-escalation, relaxation or stimulation. Music plays an important role in the care home, as it allows residents to share stories and reminisce while they enjoy sing-a-longs, listening to music and playing musical instruments.

Our site is located close to Barnsley town centre and has good transport links locally, allowing residents to make the most of nearby points of interest. Residents can do this independently where possible but will be accompanied by staff or a family member.

Trips and outings are regularly arranged by our friendly team, taking residents to local shops, farms, museums, restaurants and even to the coast. Barnsley town centre is just a short drive away, where residents and their loved ones can visit the local attractions, such as the Alhambra shopping centre for shopping and eateries, The Civic for live entertainment and Cooper Gallery for culture and art. 

Transport links near Saxondale Care Home

Saxondale is in close proximity to the local Barnsley town centre, which is less than a 20-minute walk and a 5-minute drive away. This is also the distance to Barnsley train station, from which it is approximately a 45-minute journey to Leeds and less than 30 minutes to Sheffield. 

Reliable public transport links mean that it is just a 10-minute walk to the local bus stop, where the number 489 bus takes its passengers to Barnsley town centre within 15 minutes.
